Welcome to But Not That One.
This is a podcast that is based on the idea that there are plenty of people out there who share their name with someone famous - sometimes intentionally (because Mum and Dad were fans of the original version) and sometimes totally by accident.
Is this podcast going to change the world? No. Are we going to make celebrities out of our guests? I don't think so. Are we going to have fun? We really hope so.
When you think about it, there are only so many possible combinations of first names and last names and. so there must be a whole lot of people across Australia who share their name with someone famous.
We guess that there are some advantages, especially when booking a hotel room or making a restaurant reservation. That said, I wonder how long it takes before you get sick of being asked "Are you the real <insert celebrity name>?".
We thought it might be fun to chat to some of these people and find what life is like when you have a famous name.
We figured that the best media for this to occur is via a podcast - not one of those podcasts that drops episodes like clockwork every week. No, just an informal podcast that has an episode published whenever we find someone to chat to.
OK, so what do we talk about?
We'll learn about our guest, where they live, what they do and what life is like when people think you are someone else. We'll discover whether the name is coincidental or whether Mum and Dad wanted to pay tribute to someone famous and thought that giving their child exactly the same name as the celebrity.
One of the obvious questions we'll ask is when they first realised that their name was the same as someone famous and what impact, positive or negative, it has had on their life.
Not world-changing journalism but hopefully a bit of fun for our guest and for those who choose to listen in.
The podcast is called But Not That One. When you listen to the introduction of each episode and guest, you'll work out why we gave it that name.
Each episode will be hosted by Neil Butler, a Melbourne-based podcast host who has interviewed literally hundreds of podcast guests over the past decade or more - that's his picture in the page header. His style has been described as "podversational" and after listening to one or two episodes you'll understand why.
